MOBILE, Ala. – Three national publications have picked the University of South Alabama men's basketball program to win the Sun Belt Conference and honored several Jaguars with major awards.
Lindy's, Blue Ribbon College Basketball Yearbook and Street & Smith's all have the Jaguars as their preseason favorite and named seniors
Josh Ajayi and
Trhae Mitchell to their all-conference teams.
Mitchell is Lindy's Player of the Year and Most Versatile, and senior
Don Coleman is a second-team selection as well as the Newcomer of the Year and Top NBA Prospect.
Coleman was Blue Ribbon's pick for Newcomer of the Year as well.
Ajayi averaged a team-best 16.4 points per game and led the league in field-goal percentage (.560) en route to second team all-conference honors. Mitchell was tabbed to the third team after putting up 13.6 points and a USA-high 7.6 rebounds per outing, and became the first player in school history to lead the team in rebounds, assists, steals and blocks.
Coleman, who sat out last season after transferring from California, posted a 14.2 point-per-game average in 2017-18 to lead the Bears.
