THIS WEEKEND'S GAMES
Justice Stanford's next shutout will be the 20th of her career, moving her into a tie for first at South Alabama, and 10th in league history.
Moa Öhman's goal Sunday against Ole Miss was her second of the season. She shares the team lead with Hannah Godfrey.
Öhman, Godfrey and Ana Helmert all have a team-best four points.
Three of the Jaguars' eight goals this season have come via set pieces. In USA's two exhibitions, two of the team's four goals were on set pieces.
South Alabama is in the midst of four straight games against SEC opponents for the first time since 1994, the inaugural year of the program. Sunday's contest at Florida State will give the Jaguars five consecutive Power 5 opponents for the first time ever.
South Alabama's only win against a ranked opponent in school history came against No. 1 Florida State in 2016 at The Cage.
Alabama has won its last three games by a combined 12-1 scoreline after an 0-2-1 start. The Crimson Tide defeated Kennesaw State 6-0 and Rice 5-1 in that stretch.
Casey Wertz, who scored the game-winning goal against South Alabama last season, leads Alabama with four goals. She had a brace vs. Kennesaw State and added another against Rice.
Thursday will mark USA's first visit to Tuscaloosa since 2009.
Florida State is ranked No. 3 in this week's United Soccer Coaches poll. The Seminoles have been ranked in each of the previous five meetings between the two schools. On four of those occasions, they were ranked in the top two.
FSU completed an unbeaten weekend against two top-10 foes Sunday, drawing 0-0 with No. 7 Southern California, and defeating No. 2 UCLA 4-1.
MOODIE'S QUOTES ON THE WEEKEND
On the final non-conference weekend of the year: "We took on two top opponents this past weekend and I thought the girls played really well. I thought they deserved to get a result in one of the two games, at least. Alabama is coming off three big wins and Florida State beat the No. 2 team in the country 4-1. We're recovering from three straight losses, so it's important for us to understand that you're only as good as your last game. We have to play well and prepare for the Sun Belt Conference."
On keeping the team positive after three straight losses: "We've played well, our practice sessions have been really good – they're high energy and high intensity – and you have too many girls in that room that want more. We talked after the game on Sunday that we need to put things in perspective and realize that we're so young and have done really well against top teams. Are we disappointed we didn't get a win? Yes, but at the same time we're enthusiastic and we know that we can do well against these teams. The last three games have been teams capitalizing on our mistakes and us not being able to capitalize on theirs. Our tails are up and we'll be ready to go. We're not scared to play these two teams, we're just anxious to see if we can compete for 90 minutes."
On Florida State: "Florida State last year, even though they went to the NCAA Tournament and had what most coaches would consider a successful year, Mark Krikorian and Florida State are talking about winning national championships. If they don't, then it's an unsuccessful year. They have come back with a lot in their arsenal and have some really tidy players. They're in really good form right now. They've just improved in so many different areas. They'll be trying to shoot higher than last year."
On Alabama: "Alabama had started off a little slow and had some results that were questionable but now they're firing on all cylinders. It's just a matter of time before you find your starting XI and the right shape and they seem to have found it. "
