Date: 8/9
Time: 3:30-5:30 p.m. (CDT)
Place: Jaguar Training Center
Practice attire: Full pads
Offensive Players of the Day: Collier Smith, Sr., TE, Birmingham, Ala., and Evan Orth, Sr., QB, Jacksonville, Fla.
-Offensive coordinator Kenny Edenfield on Smith and Orth: "Today, we had two guys who really stepped it up. Collier Smith has been doing a great job for us and does a lot of the dirty work; he had a really good day today. Evan Orth also had a really good day and made some big plays. He's really playing smart right now."
Defensive Player of the Day: Sterrling Fisher, So., S, Long Beach, Calif.
-Defensive coordinator Greg Stewart on Fisher: "Sterrling has had a good camp and he had a good day. We challenged him before practice to make plays, and he had a pick, a couple of pass break ups and a couple of tackles. He's at a position where he is a safety valve, if something goes wrong in the front he's a guy who can be an eraser; I think he is starting to step into that role."
Play of the Day: During the opening of a 15-minute team period to close out practice, Darian Mills made a diving play to break up a pass just before the ball reached the receiver's hands.
Team period highlights: The first 10-minute team period earlier in the day featured the offense working on plays against blitzes, while during the second 10-minute period two offensive units ran plays at the same time on either side of the midfield stripe. South's offense got off nearly 20 snaps in 15 minutes in the final team period of the afternoon.

Head coach Steve Campbell
-On the team's first practice after a day off: "We weren't as sharp as I would've liked to have seen, we got a little tired there toward the end; we have to learn to fight through that stuff. We have to know that adversity in practice and conditioning is going to happen, that's when you have to step up and have somebody make a play. I'm not sure that we fully understood that today, we didn't embrace that. I thought we got better at some things and the kids worked hard, but we have to recognize that when there are opportunities we need to take advantage of them."
-On having only two practices in pads to prepare for the team's first fall scrimmage: "You do as much as you can to try and get ready. After tomorrow we'll have had three good days in shells and two in full pads, we will be ready to scrimmage. We are at a point where we need to see exactly where we are at and who needs to be moved, we still have a lot of the shuffling of the deck to do. It worked out well for us that school starts later this year, so we get another full week of camp to move some guys around and get them ready to go before we have another good scrimmage. We are ready to get some things on film and see if we have everybody in the right spots."
-On the tempo of practice the opening week of camp: "I think we're getting a lot done, we're getting a lot of good work in. We've been 'two-spotting' a lot of stuff, which is giving a lot of people a lot of reps. We're still learning how to practice like that, but I do think we're improving. You don't get in football shape in two days in full pads, so that scrimmage will be big for us and we'll come back and have a good week next week. I like the tempo that we are working toward, we're not there yet but we're getting closer."
Up next: The Jaguars will have a two-hour practice in shells starting Friday at 9:30 a.m. at the Jaguar Training Center in preparation for the first full scrimmage of camp.
