JAGUARS’ RABREN DEFENDS SPIRIT OF AMERICA TITLE

DECATUR, Ala. – For the second straight year, University of South Alabama rising senior Brooks Rabren recorded a come-from-behind effort to claim the 51st annual Daikin Sprit of America Classic on Sunday.

Trailing by three strokes entering the final round, the Andalusia, Ala., resident carded a 3-under-par 68 at the Burningtree Country Club to win by a two-stroke margin.  It was Rabren's fourth score in the 60s in the tournament as he concluded the action with a 12-under-par 272 total to become the first individual to earn back-to-back victories at the event since 1988 and '89.

Rabren carded at least five birdies in each of the four rounds of the tournament, highlighted by seven on the final day of play; that included recording three on his final four holes to close out the competition.  He birdied the opening hole of the course — a par four — each of the last three rounds while also adding a trio of birdies on the par-five 16th.

Rabren posted a 2-under-par 69 on the first day of play as well as in the third round, while in the second round he fired a 5-under-par 66 that included four birdies on the front side of the course to go along with an eagle and a birdie on the two par fives after making the turn.

Former Jaguar Sylas Elliott carded scores of 67 and 69 over the weekend to end up in a tie for third with a 6-under-par 278 total, and incoming freshman Dawson Atkinson was one of 52 competitors to make the cut as well.
