WOMEN’S TENNIS MOVES TO 12-1 WITH WIN OVER TROY

CONWAY, S.C. - The University of South Alabama women's tennis team took down Troy 5-2 Saturday at the Stevens Tennis Complex.

DOUBLES
-Freshman Milka Pasanen (Pieksamaki, Finland) and junior Patricia Martins (Lisbon, Portugal) defeated Sanae Ohta and Nancy Karaky 6-2 on court 1.
-At No. 3, junior Alina Zolotareva (Barnaul, Russia) amd freshman Nikola Kohoutova (Kralupy Nad Vltavou, Czech Republic) dropped Maria Casas Blas and Matea Mihaljevic 6-3 to secure the doubles point.

SINGLES
-Kohoutova dropped Blas 6-1, 6-1 at No. 6, and junior Alexandria Stiteler (Bradenton, Fla.) bested Ohta 6-1, 6-2 on court 1 to put the Jaguars up 3-0.
-Freshman Yu Fujioka (Funabashi, Japan) clinched the win by downing Jiayuan Xue 7-5, 6-4 at court 2.
-Troy's two points came on courts 3 and 4. Freshman Maxine Palmen (Sittard, Netherlands) fell to Karaky 3-6, 6-2, (10-2) on court 3, and at No. 4, Pasanen lost 7-6 (8-6), 6-4 to Mihaljevic.
-Martins wrapped up play by defeating Pei Ju Hsieh 5-7, 6-3, (10-4) on court 5.

NOTES
-The Jaguars improve to 12-1 on the season, and the victory marks the seventh straight for the team.
-Fujioka and Martins are still unbeaten in singles this spring at 12-0 and 8-0, respectively.
-Stiteler has won three straight to improve to 9-1 on court 1.
-The Jaguars have won four straight in the series with Troy, and now lead 13-4
-Up next for USA is a match against Georgia Southern Sunday at 8 a.m.
-South Alabama defeated Georgia Southern twice last season, including a 4-0 win in the conference tournament.
