MOBILE, Ala. – Before a sell-out crowd of 1,152 in its season opener, the University of South Alabama had its chances against No. 10/11 Alabama, but missed opportunities proved costly Thursday night as the Jaguars dropped a 1-0 decision in their season opener at Jaguar Field.
South Alabama (0-1) got the leadoff batter aboard in the third, fourth and fifth innings, eventually placing two runners on base in each of those instances – two of those times with one out – but the Jags were unable to come up with the timely hit.
Alabama's (1-0) Alexis Osorio earned the complete-game victory scattering three hits and striking out eight.

THEY SAID IT
Head coach Becky Clark
-On her thoughts on the game: "I didn't think it was a good outing. I thought we underachieved. I thought we had a ton of opportunities in the game and we didn't step up and get the job done. We should have won that game on our home field."
-On the missed opportunities: "I felt that we gave away some at-bats tonight. There were some bright spots in there for us where we didn't give up the big inning. We were able to work out of a couple of things and had some things happen in our favor, but you are on your home field and when you're given opportunities against a pitcher like Osorio, you have to be aggressive and make the most of your opportunities. We're a better team than what we showed tonight."
-On South Alabama's pitching tonight: "I thought both of our pitchers did a good job tonight and kept Alabama off-balance. For the most part, they were able to pound the strike zone with the exception of the nine-hole hitter that we walked."
