THEY SAID IT
USA head coach Terry Fowler
Opening statement: "I thought we didn't come out and play with enough energy in the first quarter, but our kids picked it up in the second quarter; we got after them a little bit and was able to take the lead at halftime.  We had opportunities in the third quarter and couldn't get it [the lead] extended, and in the fourth quarter we had some layups that we missed and we have to convert at the free-throw line at a higher rate.  Credit to our kids for fighting, for getting ourselves back in it and taking the last shot to send the game into overtime.  It's disappointing on Senior Day because we really wanted to send our seniors out on a great note playing in their final game at the Mitchell Center."

On the play of the bench in the game: "Savannah Jones was able to get back on.  I think Chyna Ellis maybe played three minutes —if that — in the first half, but to have Antoinette Lewis come in and play at the level she is playing at we didn't miss a beat there as far as being able to score in the paint; of course we missed Chyna's defensive presence in the first half."

On what the team needs to do in next week's last two regular-season games: "We just need to get confidence back.  I thought we had a great practice yesterday, we really moved the ball.  There is no magic, it is just in the work; it's coming in and getting back to the basics and being able to play at the pace we need to play with.  They really wanted to play at a slower pace and we only got 53 shot attempts tonight."
