QUOTES
Head Coach Mark Calvi
- On Caleb Yarborough and Noah Michael:
"(Caleb) Yarborough and (Noah) Michael were really good today; they competed. It was Yarborough's first start, and it looked like he ran out of gas a little bit through four (innings). And Noah Michael has done nothing but compete and throw strikes during intrasquads. I knew he was going to follow up and give us a good effort. I though both of those kids today were really good, and Noah was outstanding. Indiana got in to one at the end and that happens, but he kept a really good team – a Power 5 team – Indiana is probably going to be top three in the Big 10. And he kept them at bay for four or five innings, so I am really proud of both of those kids. I'm proud of their effort. I hate that it didn't work out for us and for them, but we didn't swing the bats to our capability today. I thought we gave in some counts and rolled over some average changeups. We didn't handle Indiana's first reliever. We did a great job on their starter, but we didn't do a good enough job against a reliever with average stuff and that's our fault. We pitched well enough to win today. We shouldn't have even been in that situation late in the game. We should have had four or five more runs on them in my opinion. We pitched well enough to win the ballgame today, and I'm really proud of the two pitchers today and their effort."
- On the weekend:
"I'm proud of the overall body of work, and very proud of the competitiveness of the guys and the way they grinded through the weekend. Yesterday was really tough, and we had a quick turnaround today. So I'm really proud of the team. We're 3-1 and we'd love to be 4-0, but there are some things we can clean up. We got run on a little too much today; we gave up some jumps at second base where we needed to do a better job of stepping off. We threw some at-bats away and that's something we'll talk about."
- On the home opener against Southern Miss:
"We have a quick turnaround against one of the better teams in the country in Southern Miss. I know Coach (Scott) Berry is telling his team the same thing. We have a loose group, and they played hard today. It didn't work out for us, but we'll be ready to hit the field and go back to work Tuesday."
