NEW ORLEANS – Following a record-breaking performance in the final University of South Alabama football game of the 2018 season, Tra Minter was named the Sun Belt Conference Offensive Player of the Week on Monday as announced by the league office.

In posting the first 100-yard effort of his career in the Jaguars' 31-28 victory over Coastal Carolina on Friday, Minter set a new school mark with 203 yards on 24 carries — an average of 8.5 yards per attempt — while adding two receptions for another 49 yards; his career-high 252 all-purpose yards were the fourth-highest total in a contest in the program's record books.  It was the only 200-yard rushing game in the Sun Belt during the regular season.

As part of the performance, the junior running back accounted for 47 of the 67 yards on South's opening scoring drive as the Jags took the lead for good midway through the opening quarter as well as 46 yards on a scoring march that extended the advantage to 24-7 late in the first half.  With the effort, he ended the campaign with a school season-record 1,803 all-purpose yards — Minter currently leads the conference and is eighth nationally in the category — while moving up to fourth on the list with 801 rushing yards.

It is the third weekly honor for the native of Ellaville, Ga., this year.  He was first named to the Paul Hornung Award Honor Roll after USA defeated Texas State in its league opener on Sept. 15, then was chosen the Sun Belt Special Teams Player of the Week following the Jags' Oct. 13 victory over Alabama State.
