JAG VOLLEYBALL FALLS IN STRAIGHT SETS AT APP STATE

BOONE, N.C. – The University of South Alabama volleyball team fell to Appalachian State in straight sets (17-25, 23-25, 21-25) Friday in a Sun Belt Conference East Division match at Holmes Convocation Center. 

USA (11-13, 5-6 Sun Belt) will return to action Sun., Oct. 28, when it faces Coastal Carolina at 11:30 a.m. in a Sun Belt East Division match at The HTC Center in Conway, S.C. The match will be streamed live on ESPN+, and live stats will also be available via links on the Jaguar volleyball schedule page at USAJaguars.com.

GAME FACTS
- A kill by Meaghan Jones in the opening set cut the Appalachian State (16-7, 8-3 Sun Belt) lead to 6-5, but the Mountaineers responded with a 4-0 scoring run to double their lead at 10-5. App State pushed its lead to 17-11 later in the set with a 3-0 run that featured a pair of kills from Emma Longley. The Mountaineers earned set point at 24-15 on a Jaguar attack error, and clinched the set 25-17 on a Jaguar service error to take a 1-0 lead in the match.
- App State went on a 5-1 run midway through the second set to take an 18-12 lead. South Alabama answered with a 4-0 scoring run, highlighted by a block-assist from Alexis Silver and Hannah Johnson and kill by Kelley Hartman, to cut the Mountaineer lead to 19-17. After a kill by Longley, the Jags scored three straight points on kills from Johnson, Meaghan Jones and Silver to tie the score at 20-20. App State earned set point at 24-22 on a Jaguar service error, and clinched the set 25-23 on a kill by Kara Spicer to take a 2-0 lead in the match. 
- USA tied the score at 7-7 in set three after an App State attack error, but the Mountaineers responded with a 5-0 scoring run for a 12-7 advantage. The Jags cut their deficit to 14-12 with a 4-0 run that featured kills from Johnson and Hannah Harris, and a pair of App State attack errors. A kill by Harris cut the Mountaineer lead to one point at 15-14, but App State answered with a 5-0 run that featured a pair of kills by Longley to take a 20-14 lead. USA put together a 4-0 run that featured kills by Johnson and Jones to cut the App State lead to 21-19. The Mountaineers earned match point at 24-21 on a Jaguar service error, and clinched the match 25-21 on a kill by Grace Morrison. 

NOTES
- App State's Longley recorded seven kills and .700 hitting percentage in the opening set. 
- Rachael DeMarcus recorded her second career double-double and second in as many matches, finishing with 26 assists and 13 digs in addition to one kill.
- Longley also recorded a double-double for the Mountaineers, finishing with a game-high 18 kills and 13 digs, along with three service aces and a .395 hitting percentage.
- Kelley Hartman finished with eight kills, three digs and two total blocks to lead the Jaguar attack.
- Johnson added seven kills, a .455 hitting percentage and three total blocks, and Jones finished with seven kills and two digs.
- Katelyn Lochner recorded a game-high 15 digs, and also added two service aces.
