MOBILE, Ala. – The University of South Alabama women's basketball team will embark on a nine-day Monday, for a 9-day, two-city trip to Canada Monday where it will play three games and visit the cities through various tours.
The team will visit Montreal and Quebec City July 31-Aug. 8, playing two contests in Montreal and one in Quebec City.
"We want team bonding and team chemistry to be built through the trip," USA head coach Terry Fowler said. "It gives us a chance to get a head start to build a plan for the season."
The Jags' three opponents will be a team of Montreal University all-stars in Montreal on Aug. 3 (6 p.m. CDT), Laval College in Quebec City on Aug. 5 (2 p.m. CDT) and Bishop's University in Montreal on Aug. 7 (6 p.m. CDT).
"We are not going to be concerned with winning so much. We are going to try different lineups and different rotations," Fowler said. "We are going to try and give everyone about the same amount of minutes. We want to give our young players some experience so they can get a jump start."
Away from the court, the team will take a bike tour of Montreal, take in a food truck festival at Olympic Stadium, a tour of Quebec City and a day at the La Ronde Amusement Park.
"We wanted to make sure these young ladies got a chance to be in a different culture and in a different country since a lot of people do not get a chance to do it," Fowler commented. "This will be my second time out of the country and I'm really looking forward to seeing their excitement and recall some of the experiences when we return. It's just a great experience anytime you can put young people into a situation like this."
