WRIGHT LEADS USA WOMEN’S GOLF ON SECOND DAY IN GULF SHORES

GULF SHORES, Ala. – After closing with birdies on two of her final three holes of the day on Saturday, senior Carianne Wright carded a season-low 2-over-par 73 to lead the University of South Alabama women's golf team in the second round of the Bama Beach Bash.

Wright — who shaved nine strokes of her score over the first 18 holes — moved into the top 20 in the individual standings as she will begin the final round in a tie for 19th place.

Elisa Axelsen and MacKenzie Peyton are tied for 13th and 17th, respectively, after both shot a 79 in the second round, while Lexi Worrell recorded a 78 to give the Jaguars a team 309 total, four shots better than their score on Friday.

West Florida fired a 295 group score, the low round of the event through two days, and with a 597 36-hole total has opened up a 14-stroke advantage over West Georgia.  Tournament co-host Alabama-Birmingham has a 619 team score and stands third, three shots in front of USA, heading into the final round.

Franziska Bremm of UWG has a two-day even-par 142 total and will take a one-shot lead into the last 18 holes.

After teeing off on No. 10 at the par-71, 5,945-yard Gulf Shores Golf Club, Wright carded her first birdie of the day at the 371-yard 17th hole.  She parred five of the first six holes on the front nine of the course, and after posting a four at No. 7 and a two at the following hole she finished her back nine at even par.

It's the second straight event that Wright has recorded her low round of the year.

Axelsen has a 36-hole 153 total going into the final day of the tournament, posting consecutive birdies on Nos. 17 and 18 to end her front nine 2-over par.  She is one shot ahead of Peyton, who also birdied two holes in the second round after recording a two at the 140-yard fourth and four at the par-five seventh.  Worrell is tied for 29th in the individual standings after carding a birdie at No. 16, playing at 344 yards, to make the turn 2 over and another on the first.

The final round of the event will begin from split tees at 8:30 a.m. (CDT) Sunday.
