JAG FOOTBALL’S WAITMAN CLAIMS NATIONAL WEEKLY AWARD

AUGUSTA, Ga. – Following his performance in the most recent University of South Alabama football contest, Corliss Waitman was selected the Ray Guy Award Punter of the Week on Monday by the Augusta Sports Council.

Waitman had a career-high four of five punts end inside the 20-yard line — tying the school game record in the category — at Georgia State Thursday while recording an average of 46.4 yards per kick against the Panthers.  The junior also equaled a season high with three punts of 50 or more yards and did not have any of his kicks returned in claiming the honor for the first time in his career.

The Milton, Fla., resident is currently sporting the best season punting average in program history with a 45.38 figure through eight outings, and with his effort last time out he moved into the top three in South's season record books with 17 punts inside the opponent's 20-yard line.

Waitman stands second in the Sun Belt Conference and 11th in the country in punting average, with his performance helping the Jags lead the league and rank among the top 10 nationally in net punting.

Waitman and the Jaguars will play host to Louisiana Saturday at 3 p.m. (CDT) at Ladd-Peebles Stadium.
