Date: 3/30
Time: 3-5 p.m.
Place: Campus practice fields
Practice attire: Shells (Helmets and shoulder pads)
Offensive Player of the Day: Gerald Everett, Jr., TE, Lithonia, Ga.
-Offensive coordinator Bryant Vincent on Everett: "To me the guy who stood out was Gerald Everett at the tight end position. He's missed a couple of days so this was his second day back, and we tried to get him in a groove facing live action. He has really strong hands, gets in and out of his breaks very well, and he's put on 20 pounds and is trying to be physical. I was excited to get him back and playing well this afternoon."
Defensive Player of the Day: Jeremy Reaves, Fr., CB, Pensacola, Fla.
-Defensive coordinator Travis Pearson on Reaves: "Jeremy has been moving from position to position — he started at corner, moved to safety last year and now he's playing nickelback. He just gives us a different element in speed and power; you're talking about a kid nearly six feet tall and coming up to 200 pounds who can really run, yet still change directions. His cover skills have been great this spring, and he's not only adjusted but has been doing what I ask him to do. It's tough when you move kids around, but he understands that I'm trying to get the best people in the best positions."
Play of the Day: With a defender draped all over him, Tony Ray Parnell reached out and held on to a pass from Matt Vaughn on the latter's first attempt of the team period without breaking stride.
Team period highlights: USA ran 25 plays, with each five-snap possession starting at midfield, in 10 minutes as part of the lone team period of the afternoon.
Miscellaneous Notes-Prior to the team's opening practice of the week 17 former Jaguars took part in the program's Pro Day, which included drills both in the field house weight room and on the practice fields; they worked out in front of scouts from 11 National Football League teams, two NFL position coaches, a general manager of a Canadian Football League team and another CFL scout.
-Reaves accounted for the lone takeaway the second half of practice with an interception during 7-on-7 skeleton passing drills, and he also broke up a pass during the team period.
-Caleb Butler chipped in with a sack on the offense's third snap of the team period.
-Special teams periods included a segment on kickoff returns to begin the practice and covering kickoffs to end the session.
-The Jags were originally slated to work out in full pads, but coaches decided to dress in shells earlier in the day.
Head coach Joey Jones-On the day's practice: "We wanted to wear pads on alternating days this week, we felt that switching to shells this afternoon gave us a better flow. Offensively we came out and played well, we were executing things better; the quarterbacks are starting to make better throws, and the line continues to improve. Defensively we did a better job of not giving up as many deep balls as we did earlier in the spring, which is always a concern."
-On the positives from Saturday's scrimmage: "Our linebackers have stepped up — that's been a good surprise — and E.J. May played extremely well on defense. On the offensive side of the ball the line is fundamentally getting better, it's nice to see how much better they've gotten this quickly. And our punters punted extremely well."
-On what the team will work on this week: "We have to develop more players on the defensive front, we have to find guys who can play inside, and we need to shore up our situation at cornerback. Last year we had some great cover corners, so these guys have some big shoes to fill."
