NEW YORK – The John Mackey Award released its Midseason Watch List on Wednesday, and the group of candidates for the honor now includes the University of South Alabama's Gerald Everett.

The junior is one of 35 individuals in consideration for the award presented to the most outstanding collegiate tight end.  Semifinalists will be announced on Nov. 16, with the list of finalists set to be revealed on Nov. 24; the winner will be unveiled on Dec. 9 and presented the award the following night at The Home Depot College Football Awards Red Carpet Show on ESPNU.

Everett, in his first season with the program, leads the team with 26 receptions, six touchdown catches and seven total touchdowns.  He is also tied for the most points scored this fall (42) and stands second with 375 receiving yards.

The Lithonia, Ga., resident is among the top 10 in the Sun Belt Conference in both catches and yards receiving per contest, ranking second nationally among tight ends in the latter category.

Everett has caught at least three balls in each of the Jaguars' first six games this year, with career highs of eight receptions for 164 yards in an overtime victory at San Diego State on Sept. 19.  He has at least one touchdown catch in four straight outings — a program record — and has scored twice in each of the last two contests after reaching the end zone on both a reception and a rush Tuesday against Arkansas State.

The John Mackey Tight End of the Week after scoring twice to help the Jags claim "Battle For The Belt" with an Oct. 3 win at Troy, Everett already is tied for third on USA's season record list for touchdown receptions and is among the top 10 for total touchdowns.
