USA FOOTBALL ADDS DEFENSIVE BACK TO 2014 ROSTER

MOBILE, Ala. – University of South Alabama head football coach Joey Jones announced Thursday that Quinton Dent has signed a National Letter-of-Intent and will join the program in the fall.

Dent, who played the last two years at Laney (Calif.) C.C., is the second junior-college defensive back to sign with the Jaguars this spring, bringing the total to 10 individuals in the secondary in the recruiting class.

A 6-foot-3, 180-pound native of Haines City, Fla., Dent earned first-team all-Golden Gate Conference Central Division honors last fall after helping the Eagles to a win in the Bay Bowl en route to an 8-3 finish.  He posted 32 total tackles — with 23 of those of the solo variety — to go along with three interceptions and a team-best 13 passes broken up.  Highlights from his sophomore season included collecting a career-high seven stops, three passes broken up and an interception he returned 30 yards in a win over Reedley (Calif.) C.C., as well as posting a career-best six passes defensed and four total tackles against San Francisco C.C., the top-ranked team in the state.  Dent also had an interception and was credited with four solo stops in the season opener against sixth-ranked San Mateo (Calif.) C.C.

As a freshman, he recorded seven tackles, an interception and a pass broken up, including making a season-best four stops against Modesto (Calif.) C.C.  Dent prepped at Haines City High prior to entering the junior-college ranks.
