28 JAGUAR STUDENT-ATHLETES RECEIVE DEGREES SATURDAY

MOBILE, Ala. – A total of 28 current and former student-athletes from eight University of South Alabama sport programs received their undergraduate degrees Saturday after participating in the school's annual fall graduation ceremony at the Mitchell Center.

The group includes a dozen members of the football team that will play in its first-ever postseason bowl game in a week, five who were on the roster when the soccer program earned its first-ever Sun Belt Conference Championship and NCAA Tournament berth in 2013, and an all-league selection from the '13 baseball team that participated in the NCAA Tournament as well.

Morgan Motes and Tatum Perry both appeared in 20 or more matches as seniors during the 2013 campaign as the Jaguars finished 14-6-3 after their initial national postseason contest, while Carlaine Myers, Tina Schaar and Linsey Snavely were contributors that fall as well.

Earlier that spring, Matt Bell was a second-team all-Sun Belt pick after helping the Jag baseball squad post a 43-20 mark while earning the second seed at the NCAA Starkville (Miss.) Regional.

Terrell Brigham and Ucambre Williams each were selected second-team all-Sun Belt this week, and Melvin Meggs was an honorable mention pick after helping USA go 5-3 in league action while earning six total victories; they — along with current teammates Brandon Bridge, Shane Doty, Trey Fetner, Qudarius Ford, Anthony Harris, Kendall Houston, Ridge James and Nathan Sassaman — will be on the field when the Jaguars face Bowling Green on Saturday, Dec. 20 at 8:15 p.m. (CST) in the inaugural Raycom Media Camellia Bowl.  Jay Jones, who was the team's leading rusher before suffering a season-ending injury in October, also graduated.

Other all-conference honorees who earned their degrees following the conclusion of fall classes included Tyler Agee (men's track and field), Meghan Dunn (women's basketball) and Shayann Vaezzadeh (men's tennis).

Women's tennis player Mary Angela Martin will be a senior on the courts this spring, while former student-athletes Brandon Hallford (baseball), Jennifer Johnson (women's basketball), Anna Lesher (women's golf), Natalie Parsons (soccer), Devin Robinson (football) and Corey Waldon (football) received degrees as well.
