LAS VEGAS – University of South Alabama sophomore
Michaela Meszarosova (Bratislava, Slovakia) won the Flight Four singles title with a straight-sets win Sunday at the UNLV Women's Tennis Fall Invitational.
Meszarosova rallied from first-set deficits in her first two matches this weekend but swept
Laura Eales of Long Beach State 6-2, 6-4 on Sunday.
"We had a great weekend of tennis," USA head coach
Jaco Keyser said. "It was good to see us compete as hard as we did on the final day in the heat. Overall we definitely got better and there was sign on the final day of us carving out the identity of what I want for this team."
Meszarosova was one of three Jaguars to pick up a singles win on the day, with freshman
Laura Valkova (Piestany, Slovakia) defeating
Johanna Vang of Northern Arizona 6-3, 6-2 and freshman
Laura Matuskova (Bratislava, Slovakia) topping New Mexico State's
Annemieke Witte 7-5, 2-1 (ret.).
USA split a pair of doubles clashes, with Valkova and Meszarosova falling in the Flight One final to the North Texas duo
Keseniya Bardabush and
Franziska Sprinkmeyer 8-4. Freshman
Monica Mitta (Fairhope, Ala.) and sophomore
Paula Sanchez (Bogota, Colombia) picked up an 8-4 victory over Witte and
Brittany Collens.
The Jaguars return to action Oct. 4-6 at the Bulldog Classic hosted by Samford.
