TAMPA, Fla. - The University of South Alabama women’s tennis singles lineup dropped only one game in their 7-0 victory over Hillsborough Community College Sunday afternoon at the HCC Complex.
The Jaguars won their second straight to improve to 11-5 and the Lady Hawks drop to 0-5 overall.
“We did a good job of taking care of business at the back end of a busy stretch,” said USA head coach Jaco Keyser.
After winning all three doubles matches and taking a 1-0 lead, sophomore Ramona Ghermani (Bad Wimpfen, Germany) picked up the first singles victory, 6-0, 1-0 (ret.) over Sara Larrauri at No. 4. Freshman Cinta Maria Papke (Flein, Germany) blanked Deana Galbraith 6-0, 6-0 on the No. 3 court.
Freshman Michaela Meszarosova (Bratislava, Slovakia) added another point for the Jaguars and secured the match with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Jennifer Fernandez.
Sophomore Mariya Krachok (Kiev, Ukraine) topped Kenya Puig 6-0, 6-0 at the No. 1 spot and freshman Paula Sanchez (Bogota, Columbia) added to her four-match win streak with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Alexis Farrar. Freshman Sibela Gajer (Zagreb, Croatia) picked up her second win of the season when she defeated Katlyn Flick 6-0, 6-1 in the No. 6 flight.
In doubles action, Papke and Meszarosova put the Jaguars on the board when they blanked Galbraith and Farrar 8-0 at No. 2. Ghermani and Krachok claimed their 10th victory of the season and clinched the doubles point with an 8-0 win over Puig and Larrauri on the No. 1 court. Sanchez and Gajer teamed up to defeat Flick and Fernandez 8-1 at the No. 3 spot.
“We are looking forward to getting back on the practice courts in order to get ready for some important matches coming up in the next few weeks,” said Keyser.
The Jaguars are back in action Saturday when they travel to Tennessee to take on Memphis.
