MOBILE, Ala. – University of South Alabama head football coach Joey Jones announced Wednesday that Tyrell Vinson has signed a National Letter-of-Intent and will join the program in the fall.
Vinson is the 20th individual to sign with the Jaguars this spring, and is the fourth wide receiver in that group.
Last fall, the 6-foot, 180-pound junior-college transfer caught 50 passes for 887 yards and six touchdowns to be selected first-team all-Northern California Football Association and all-Golden Gate Conference. In addition to leading Merced (Calif.) C.C. in all three categories, the native of Wilson, N.C., topped the league in yards and yards per game while standing second in receiving touchdowns and fourth in total catches. Against Chabot (Calif.) C.C, Vinson posted six receptions for a season-best 202 yards and a score, while he recorded a season-high nine catches for 164 yards and a touchdown the following week at Reedley (Calif.) C.C.
Vinson — who averaged 26 yards per kick return — also had offers from Kansas, Middle Tennessee and New Mexico.
