LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Seven members of the 2012-13 University of South Alabama softball squad have been tabbed All-America Scholar Athletes by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA), as announced by the organization on Monday.
Â
The program has had at least that many awarded three times since its inception in 2007.
Â
Alex Breeden, Blair Johnson, Hannah Campbell, Jessica Dobson, Julie Moss, Kaitlyn Griffith and Meghan Collins were awarded the honor, which is bestowed upon any player submitted by a member coach who achieved a 3.50 grade-point average (GPA) or higher during the 2012-13 academic year.
Â
Collins, now a graduate student, made the list all four years of her athletic career, and current seniors Campbell and Moss were selected for a third time. Johnson and Griffith have been named to the list twice and are entering their junior year.
USA was also named an Academic All-America Team after posting a 3.285 collective GPA.
Â
The NFCA is the professional growth organization for fastpitch softball coaches from all competitive levels of play. South Alabama has had either a top-50 program rank or a handful of individuals named All-Academic Scholar Athletes by the NFCA since the program's 2007.
