USA'S CLARK NAMED TO CoSIDA ACADEMIC ALL-AMERICA FOOTBALL SQUAD

Senior center Trey Clark was named second-team Academic All-America on Thursday.

MOBILE, Ala. – On the field, University of South Alabama senior center Trey Clark set a standard as the only individual in program history to start every contest in the football program’s first four years of competition.  Off of it, his performance in the classroom has earned the Prattville, Ala., native numerous accolades.

The latest came on Thursday, when Clark was named second-team Capital One Academic All-America by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

To qualify for CoSIDA’s Academic All-America team, Clark had to be selected first-team academic all-district; to be nominated for the organization’s academic honors, individuals must carry a minimum of a 3.30 cumulative grade-point average, have sophomore status both academically and athletically, and be a starter or important reserve.

Clark has been voted first-team academic all-district each of the last two years — USA’s district includes the states of Alabama, Florida, Georgia and South Carolina — and was also selected to the FCS Athletic Directors Association Academic All-Star Team in 2011.

One of only two individuals to start every game this year on offense, Clark was the lone Jaguar from the unit to be on the field for all 938 snaps as USA played a school-record 13 contests.  He earned a season-high 91 percent mark at 23rd-ranked Mississippi State Sept. 22, going on to finish the season with an 89 percent grade.  Clark averaged more than six knockdown blocks per outing as well.

Clark was the lone individual from the Sun Belt Conference to be named to the 2012 Capital One Academic All-America team.
