JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Anna Lesher shot 3-over par 75 in each of the first two rounds of the Courtyard Classic at Hidden Hills Country Club Monday to lead the University of South Alabama women’s golf team.
Lesher (75-75) put together a 3-under par 33 on the back nine of the first round, and will enter Tuesday’s final round tied for ninth with a two-round total of 150.
“Anna [Lesher] played fairly solid all day,” head coach TJ Jackson said. “She could have putted a little better and could have been lower for that reason. But she birdied her last hole and that’s what we need to do – finish strong. She kept the ball in play. Her short game saved her a few times, and she posted two good rounds.”
South Alabama (309-300) recorded its second-lowest team round of the year with a 300 in Monday’s second round.
“Coming back with a 300 after a 309 is the direction we want to go,” Jackson said. “We still had too many mistakes to post a good number [in the first round], so we have some things that we have to correct. But we did some good things in the second round and we’re going in the right direction. We were consistent in the second round, but we want to get under par. We need to string some birdies together tomorrow, then keep it under par and not give any strokes back.”
The Jaguars will enter the final round just six shots back of the lead, which is held by Jacksonville (297-306) after the first two rounds.
Kristen Golightly (76-75) finished the first two rounds in a tie for 12th place after posting a two-round total of 151. Ashleigh Ryals (79-74) is tied for 15th with a two-round score of 153.
Ingrid Hagen (79-76) closed day one with a two-round total of 155, and will begin the final round tied for 21st. Taylor Appleyard (84-81) turned in a two-round total of 165.
Jacksonville’s Jessica Welch (69-72) holds the individual lead through two rounds with a total of 141.
The final round of the Courtyard Classic will begin Tuesday at 8 a.m.
