MOBILE, Ala. – The University of South Alabama strength and conditioning staff will play host to the third annual JagPower Strength & Conditioning Coaches Clinic Saturday at the football fieldhouse on the west side of campus.
The one-day event will feature speakers from across the country as well as a question-and-answer session to end the day. Registration will begin at 7:30 a.m., with the program set to start at 8 a.m.
The keynote speaker, presented by Samson Weight Equipment, will be James Smith from Power Development Inc. A former assistant strength and conditioning coach at the NCAA Division I level as well as a veteran of the U.S. Armed Forces, Smith has extensive experience lecturing on the subject of physical preparation, and he has twice been featured in Muscle and Fitness magazine. Smith will be followed at 10:45 a.m. by Florida State assistant strength and conditioning coach Erik Korem, who will discuss movement development.
Following an hour-break for lunch, Yancy McKnight — the head strength and conditioning coach at Iowa State — will speak, followed by USA assistant strength and conditioning coach Jon Hersel and Dr. Coral Gubler, an assistant professor in the Physical Therapy Department at South Alabama. The clinic is expected to conclude at 6 p.m. after a 30-minute Q&A session.
There will also be a coaches social Friday at 5 p.m. at the Homewood Suites on Providence Estate Boulevard in Mobile.
The cost to attend the clinic is $125, though discounts are available for two ($115 per person) or three or more ($105 per person) individuals from the same school. It is also $105 for students with a copy of their valid ID. Interested individuals can register in advance for the clinic by visiting www.jagpower.net, though walk ups are welcome.
