DENVER TOPS USA WOMEN'S TENNIS 6-1

USA vs. Denver box score

MURFREESBORO, Tenn.
– The University of South Alabama women’s tennis team lost its bout with Sun Belt Conference foe Denver 6-1 at the Buck Bouldin Tennis Center Saturday morning, despite two wins by junior Chané Hines (Johannesburg, South Africa).

With today’s win Denver improves to 6-10 in dual matches, while USA falls to 1-8.

“Denver is a very good team with twice the amount of talent we have,” said USA head coach Jaco Keyser. “Having said that, I am very happy with the way we competed and played all the way to the end today.”

The Pioneers secured the doubles point with wins on the No. 2 and No. 3 courts including a shutout in the No. 3 spot. Hines partnered with the Jags’ lone senior, Katie Welch (Mobile, Ala.) to pick up a win in the No. 1 flight over Sophia Bergner and Elena Najera 8-5.

In singles action, DU downed the Jaguars on all courts except No. 3 where Hines topped Gabrielle Boboc in straight sets 6-4, 6-2.

The Jags will take on Sun Belt Conference rival Middle Tennessee in their second match of the weekend Sunday at the Buck Bouldin Tennis Center on MTSU’s campus at 10 a.m.
