USA vs. North Texas box score

MIAMI
– The University of South Alabama women’s tennis team fell 6-1 to Sun Belt Conference foe North Texas Thursday at the FIU Tennis Courts despite junior Chané Hines (Johannesburg, South Africa) picking up wins at No. 3 singles and No. 2 doubles.

“We put up a great fight,” said USA head coach Jaco Keyser. “The bottom line is that North Texas is a much better team than us, but I am really proud of how the girls continue to fight through the restrictions that have been hanging over our head.”

The Mean Green (4-9) gave up a combined four games in their wins in the No. 1 and No. 3 spots to secure the doubles point.

Hines paired with sophomore Jess Courtnell (Newcastle, England) to defeat Nadia Lee and Madura Ranganathan on the No. 2 court 8-4.

Hines was the only Jag to earn a point on the day winning 7-6, (ret.) at No. 3 singles.

North Texas topped South Alabama (1-4) in straight sets in the No. 1, No. 2, No. 5 and No. 6 flights. At No. 4 singles Courtnell fought back after dropping her first set, but eventually fell to Lee 6-1, 5-7, (10-7).

The Jaguars will stay in Miami for their next match against Sun Belt Conference competitor No. 61 Florida Atlantic.
