GREGORY WILL NOT RETURN TO USA FOOTBALL STAFF IN 2012

MOBILE, Ala. – University of South Alabama head football coach Joey Jones announced Monday that offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach Greg Gregory will not return to the staff next season.

“Greg has given us three really good years,” Jones said.  “We’ve enjoyed working with him and wish him the best in the future.”

Gregory joined the Jaguar staff just prior to the start of the program’s first-ever spring practice after a four-year stint at South Florida.  Last season — USA’s first making the transition to the NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision level — the Jags averaged 24.4 points and 326.7 yards per contest.  USA quarterbacks combined to complete 53.4 percent of their pass attempts for 1,640 yards and eight scores, with C.J. Bennett adding 76 yards and three touchdowns on the ground.

USA went 6-4 in 2011 against a schedule that included the first two NCAA FBS opponents in school history.
