TROY, Ala. – The University of South Alabama soccer team fell to Mississippi State, 3-1, Sunday afternoon in the second day of the Trojan Classic at the Trojan Soccer Complex.
MSU (4-1-0) jumped out to a 1-0 lead on a goal by Elisabeth Sullivan in the 23rd min.
USA (1-4-0) tied the match in the 44th minute when junior Brandi Smith scored on an assist by Clarissa Hernandez.
Rachel Wannek added two back-to-back goals in the second half to give the Bulldogs the victory.
“I feel like we are continuing to get better every match, “USA head coach Mike Varga said. “ We are still having mental lapses and giving up goals in the second half. If we make fewer mistakes the outcome will be different.”

USA returns to action next weekend when it hosts the Port City Classic. The Jags open the tournament Friday night against Sam Houston. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at The Cage.
