MOBILE, Ala.
– Kristyn Thacker scored two goals and recorded one assist to lead University of South Alabama soccer to a 6-1 win over Alabama State Friday night at The Cage.

Thacker scored her first goal in the 15th minute of the first half to give the Jaguars a 2-0 lead, following Linsey Snavely’s breakaway goal in the third minute which gave South Alabama a 1-0 lead. Thacker netted the shot which came on a rebound from Kayla Conrad’s shot off the right post. She netted her second goal of the contest in the 51st minute of the second half on an assist by Snavely.

Lizzie Goldsmith and Kasey Crowe added goals in the 37th and 41st minutes, respectively, as South Alabama jumped out to a 4-0 lead. Goldsmith scored off of a rebound following a corner kick, while Crowe scored on a breakaway after beating the keeper to the right corner of the net.

Alabama State (0-2-0) scored its lone goal in the 43rd minute of the first half when Helma Van Zadow netted a shot from the right side just outside the box.

Natalie Parsons added the Jaguars’ final goal of the game in the 89th minute on an assist by Kasey Crowe.

South Alabama outshot the Hornets 26-2, and tallied 19 shots on goal while Alabama State managed just two. The Jags outshot ASU 14-1 in the first half and 12-1 in the second half.

“It was good that everyone got to play,” Jaguar head coach Mike Varga said. “We moved the ball well even with the field conditions the way they were. Overall, I was pleased with everybody contributing and the fact that our level never dropped. With 18 freshmen, they have to understand you have to work hard to win games but it’s good to get a win and build their confidence.”

South Alabama (1-2-0) will return to action next Friday when it opens the Trojan Classic in Troy, Ala., against Austin Peay. Kickoff is scheduled for noon.
