MOBILE, Ala. – While the University of South Alabama’s football program looks to the opening the 2010 campaign against Pikeville (Ky.) at home on Sept. 4, fans can now re-live the excitement and successes of the Jaguars’ inaugural season of competition through a colorful new book published by the University as the official commemorative publication of the historic first season of Jaguar football and marching band.
“Kickoff: The Story of the University of South Alabama’s Inaugural Football Season” is available at the USA Bookstore on campus as well as through the bookstore’s web site at http://store597.collegestoreonline.com/. Any individual who donated to the Jaguar Athletic Fund from January 2008 through the beginning of the upcoming football season can pick up a complimentary copy of the book at the south entrance of the Mitchell Center off Old Shell Road from 4-7 p.m. Aug. 23-27 and Aug. 30-Sept. 3, or at the team’s “Fan Day” event set to take place from 9:30-11 a.m. Saturday at Ladd-Peebles Stadium.
“Kickoff” will also be available for purchase at the stadium on game days this fall at all JagWear merchandise stands, as well as at “Fan Day.” USA head coach Joey Jones will be available to sign copies of the book during the event.
The publication, which was written by Mobile Press-Register columnist/beat writer Tommy Hicks, includes chapters on the birth of the program, Jones and a look into the Jaguars’ future as well as features recapping each of the Jags’ victories last fall. University President Gordon Moulton provided the foreward, and Director of Athletics Dr. Joel Erdmann penned a segment “Going Forward.”
The 92-page, keepsake-quality book is full of historic photographs of the moments leading up to implementation of the football and marching band programs at USA, as well as action photos from the first season and first-person accounts from those involved in the creation of Jaguar football and marching band.
The price of the book is $11.95.
