MOBILE, Ala. –
The University of South Alabama women’s tennis team fell to the 38th
ranked Florida International Golden Panthers 7-0 Friday at the Bruce David
Lubel Memorial Tennis Courts.
In doubles action the FIU tandem of Liset Brito and Maria
Vallasciani bested USA’s Katie Welch and Chané Hines at the No. 1 position 8-5.
In the No. 2 flight the Jaguar pair of Marie Boura and Jess Courtnell fell to
Priscilla Castillo and Maria Spenceley 8-3.
FIU swept singles play easily, winning all four matches in
straight sets. The Jags’ Boura fell to No. 110 Brito 6-0, 6-4 at the No. 1
spot. Welch dropped No. 2 singles to the Golden Panthers’ Christine Seredni
6-2, 7-6 (10-5).
FIU’s Vallasciani and Magali Holt earned wins at the No. 5
and 6 flights by default.
The Jags will host Sun Belt Conference foe North Texas Feb.
21 at the Bruce David Lubel Memorial Courts at 11 a.m..
