OPENING TIP
Wednesday’s game will be the 1,200th official game in the program’s history. USA is 694-505 in 44 seasons.
South Alabama has won its last two road games against SEC opponents, defeating Arkansas 74-61 and No. 18 Florida 67-66 last season.
USA is 11-36 all-time against current members of the SEC.
South Alabama last played SEC teams in back-to-back games in December 2006. That team actually played three straight SEC schools and went 0-3.
The two in-state rivals have met just twice and not since 1998. South Alabama’s only victory came in the 1989 NCAA Tournament in Atlanta when the Jags rallied from a 19-point deficit to knock off the Tide. Wednesday is the first game on either school’s home floor.
The Jaguars are averaging 76.0 points per game at home (2-1 record) and only 58.0 ppg on the road (0-2 record).
A loss would give USA a 2-4 record for the first time since the 2004-05 campaign.
South Alabama has outshot and outrebounded its opponent in each of its two wins and lost both battles in its three losses.
P.J. Reyes set a new career high in scoring Sunday with 12 points, all in the second half. He shot 3-of-4 from 3-point land and 3-of-4 from the line.
The Jags committed a season-low nine turnovers vs. LSU. USA ranks third in the Sun Belt in forcing turnovers (16.4 pg) and fourth in steals (7.8 pg). Martino Brock is tied for fifth individually in steals with 2.0 per contest.
