LASITER, LAWSON LEAD USA CROSS COUNTRY AT REGIONAL MEET

HOOVER, Ala.A pair of sophomores led the University of South Alabama cross country teams as it wrapped up the 2010 season Saturday morning at the NCAA South Regional Championship.
 
Scott Lasiter paced the men, finishing 39th with a time of 31:41.76 over the 10,000-meter course at Veterans Park, while Tori Lawson was the top performer for the women after completing the 6,000-meter race 21:48.34 to come in 57th place.
 
“I thought Scott and Tori really stood out for us today. They ran well,” said USA head coach Paul Brueske.  “There were other promising performances as well. We are going to keep working hard and recruit some more runners who can help us win.”
 
Damien Lee finished 60th with a time of 32:21.98, Matt Miller was 68th with a time of 32:30.02 and Mark Sullivan came in 106th place after completing the course in 33:43.03 for USA, which did not record a team score.
 
For the women, Brittany Westmoreland was 131st with a time of 23:07.98, Jessie Mackie finished 181st with a time of 25:28.30 and Courtney Kieffer placed 182nd with a time of 25:28.39.  Kendra Lowe recorded a time of 26:26.14 to finish 184th and Faith Sanders came in 185th place with a time of 26:31.67.?
 
The women were 23rd out of the 25 teams that posted a team score.

In the men’s race,
Alabama men finished first with 30 points and Florida State was second with 55 points. CiaranO’Lionaird of FSU won with a time of 30:03.34.
 
Florida States women finished in first place with 24 pointswith Florida coming in second with 67 points, while Kristie Krueger from Georgia won the individual title with a time of 19:52.93.
