USA SOCCER FALLS TO MTSU, 1-0

MOBILE, Ala. – The University of South Alabama soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision to Middle Tennessee Thursday night in Sun Belt Conference action at The Cage.

“I am proud of how we played,” USA head coach Mike Varga said. “Even after we gave up a goal we kept fighting and made it tough for Middle Tennessee. There is not much that we can change between now and Sunday, so we just need to keep playing with the same intensity.”

MTSU (10-8-0, 7-2) sophomore Paige Goeglein scored the only goal of the match in 14th minute off of a corner kick from the right side by Whitney Jorgenson.

USA goalkeeper Melissa Drish recorded 10 saves in the contest.

The Blue Raiders ended the match with 11 shots on goal, while the Jaguars ended the match with two. MTSU outshot USA 17-8 on the night.

The Jags (4-13-1, 2-7) return to SBC action Sunday afternoon against Western Kentucky. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
