JONESBORO, Ark. –University of South Alabama soccer fell to Sun Belt Conference opponent Arkansas State Friday afternoon, 2-1 in Jonesboro, Ark.
“This loss stings pretty bad,” USA head coach Mike Varga said. “It’s a frustrating loss, but Arkansas State did what they had to do. We just need to regroup and fight hard on Sunday against UALR.”
ASU (6-8-1, 2-5) jumped to a 1-0 lead on an own goal by a South Alabama defender at the 3 minute mark.
USA's Kayla Conrad evened the score in the 12th minute on an assist from Clarissa Hernandez.
Karla Kurandy scored the match-winning goal for ASU off a free kick in the 39th minute.
USA (4-11-1, 2-5) returns to SBC action Sunday afternoon when they take Arkansas-Little Rock. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. in Little Rock, Ark.
