The University of South Alabama cross country teams will compete Saturday at the Troy Coach "O" Invitational. The men will begin the 5,000-meter race at 9:30 a.m., and the women will run a two-mile race at 10 a.m.
The Jaguars last raced on Sept. 25, when they competed at the Memphis Twilight. USA finished sixth out of 30 teams in the men’s 8k race, and while the women finished seventh in a field of 32 schools in the 5k race.
Scott Lasiter led the Jags, finishing 22nd with a time of 25:05.46. The Jaguars also had four other runners place in the top 50 out of 264 runners. Damien Lee was 37th with a time of 25:22.50, while Saber Salah finished 43rd with a time of 25:33.79. Matt Miller came in 45th place with a time of 25:35.59, and Mark Sullivan finished with a time of 25:42.34 to place 49th.
USA also had Zack Brantley finish 69th with a time of 26:05.15 and Rich Schmitz finished 129th with a time of 27:04.63.
The women were led by Dani Sullivan, who ended the 5k run with a time of 18:10.36 to come in 14th place. The Lady Jags had three other runners finish in the top 50 of the 256 individuals competing; Jessie Mackie, who was 32nd with a time of 18:42.81, Tori Lawson came in 47th place with a time of 18:59.05, and Brittany Westmoreland, who finished 50th with a time of 19:02.99. USA also had Sasha Corcoran finished the course in 20:07.99 to place 112th, Faith Sanders finished 153rd with a time of 20:55.06, Courtney Kieffer was 171st after clocking a time of 21:31.75,
while Kendra Lowe finished 194th with a time of 22:20.83.
"We are anxious to get another meet under our belts before [the Sun Belt] conference championships," said USA head coach Paul Brueske. “The men and women are making steady progress in training, and we looking forward to seeing them compete."
Other schools competing include Troy, Tuskegee, Spring Hill, Huntingdon, and Albany State.
