JAGS FALL TO MIDDLE TENNESSEE, 3-2

MOBILE, Ala. - University of South Alabama soccer fell to Middle Tennessee, 3-2, Sunday afternoon in Sun Belt Conference action at "The Cage."

MTSU (9-2-1, 3-1-0) took a 1-0 lead on a goal in the 22nd minute of the first half off of a free kick.

USA (2-9-1, 0-3-1) tied the game in the 33rd minute when Allie Frakes scored on a header off of a corner kick from Samantha Stocker. Frakes' goal, her first of the season, was headed from the right box into the right corner of the net.

The Jags took a 2-1 lead in the 66th minute of the second half when Brandi Smith scored her sixth goal of the season on a breakaway from 25 yards out.

MTSU tied the game 2-2 in the 67th minute on a breakaway goal from the right side of the box. The Blue Raiders scored the final goal of the game off of a header into the left net.

"I thought we gave more from an effort standpoint  than we have recently, so that was a good sign that we're still going to fight and keep competing," USA head coach Mike Varga said. "One mistake led to another today. There were too many unforced turnovers, but the effort was there.

"If we can sort out the turnovers, and keep the effort up, I think we'll be okay. We're having a hard time figuring out a full game right now, but I feel like once we put a full game together we'll be fine."
