Kotze recorded the second-best throw in the country this year — and best this weekend nationally — Saturday in the men’s invitational discus at the Pepsi Florida Relays, claiming first place in the event over a field of 13 that included the 2014 NCAA champion; his mark of 62.11m broke his own school and Sun Belt Conference records set last spring, and was over a meter better than his nearest competitor. The senior added a ninth-place finish in the hammer throw with a season-best mark of 60.52m that stands fifth in the league.
