Tyler Roper joined South Alabama as the Associate Athletic Director for Strategic Communications in August of 2023 and was promoted to Associate Athletic Director for Communications and Creative Strategy in February of 2025.

He arrived in Mobile by way of Western Kentucky University where he spent the 2022 season working primarily with the Hilltoppers' football program.

At WKU, Roper was the primary contact for a football program that went 9-5 and won the 2022 New Orleans Bowl. Roper also coordinated the publicity efforts for quarterback Austin Reed, who finished the season as the nation's leader in passing yards. On WKU's senior day, the team wore a new helmet that featured WKU's mascot, Big Red. Roper led the promotional efforts for that project, which ended up winning Institutional Marketing Program of the Year at CLC's annual convention.

Before his time at WKU, Roper served as the Assistant AD for Communications at Southern Utah University in Cedar City, Utah. During his stint with the Thunderbirds, Roper spent time as the primary contact for each of SUU's 13 sports. Highlights from Roper's tenure at Southern Utah include implementing the new Southern Utah Athletics mobile app in addition to serving on the hiring committee for head football coach DeLane Fitzgerald.Â
Prior to Southern Utah, Roper worked at Ball State University for two years as an Athletic Communications Assistant. He served as the primary contact for soccer, swimming & diving and men's volleyball while also providing support to football and men's and women's basketball. While at Ball State, Roper was one of three recipients of CoSIDA's postgraduate scholarship in 2019. He also completed an internship at the NCAA offices in Indianapolis during the fall of 2019. He interned for the media coordination and statistics team where he helped plan NCAA championship events and provided assistance to the volleyball selection committee.Â
Roper started his career in college athletics at Utah Valley University as a student assistant in the sports information office. He spent two years on staff and worked as the primary contact for the women's golf team while also serving as a secondary contact for men's basketball. Roper played a part in UVU's "Toughest 24" campaign which featured the men's basketball team opening the season by playing at Kentucky and Duke on back-to-back nights. The campaign won Best of Show at the 2018 Golden Spike Awards, which honors the best public relations campaigns in the state of Utah.
The West Jordan, Utah, native holds a bachelor's degree in public relations from Utah Valley University and a master's degree in sport administration from Ball State University.
Roper is joined in Mobile by his wife, Sydney, and three children, Lyla, Bennett and Bryce.
