Jon Arvelo

Jon Arvelo was hired as one of the University of South Alabama’s Assistant Athletic Trainers in the summer of 2019. 

He is currently the athletic trainer for the Jaguar baseball team and is the insurance coordinator for the Sports Medicine Department. 

Prior to his arrival at USA, he worked as an assistant athletic trainer at Radford University in Virginia, a member of the Big South Conference from 2016 until 2019. He worked primarily with the Highlanders’ men’s soccer and women’s lacrosse teams, and previously worked with women’s track & field.

Before Radford, Arvelo was an assistant athletic trainer at Saint Leo University from 2008 until 2015. He worked specifically with men’s soccer, softball, women’s golf, women’s basketball, and men’s and women’s swimming during his time there.

Arvelo received his bachelor of science degree from the University of Florida in 2004, where he studied Exercise and Sports Science/Athletic Training. As an undergraduate, he worked as a student athletic trainer where he assisted with the Gators’ nationally-ranked football team as well as the men’s tennis and swimming and diving squads.  Arvelo also performed an internship at P.K. Yonge High School in Gainesville, Fla., in 2004-05.

He went on to obtain a Master of Public Health degree from the University of North Florida in 2007, where he worked as a graduate assistant/intern from 2005-08 assisting in the daily prevention of injuries with men’s soccer, softball and men’s/women’s tennis teams.

Arvelo held a seasonal athletic trainer role at Baptist Occupational Health Center in 2008 after completing his master’s.

Arvelo is a member of the National Athletic Trainers Association, Mid Atlantic Athletic Trainers Association and Southeastern Athletic Trainers Association.  He holds certifications in Graston Technique, National Board of Certification for Athletic Trainers, CPR/AED for the Healthcare Providers, and licensed in the Alabama Board of Athletic Trainers.
