2013-14: 8-10 record overall, 6-9 in dual matches… 1-1 at No. 1, 2-2 at No. 2, 3-6 at No. 3… Won all but one match in straight sets… Put together a four-match win streak in March and April, dropping more than five games in a match just once over that stretch… Started streak with 6-0, 6-2 win over Texas State’s Ana Laura Gutierrez before defeating Louisiana-Lafayette’s Melissa Burckhartt 6-4, 7-6 (7-2)… Breezed past Mafalda Lhorca of Norfolk State (6-1, 6-1) and Marijana Novakovic of Old Dominion to finish off the unbeaten run… 10-8 overall doubles record, 6-7 in dual matches… 6-7 at No. 1… Second Team All-Sun Belt with Michaela Meszarosova… Went 3-0 at Samford Fall Invitational to win Flight 1 title… Defeated pairs from Samford, Middle Tennessee and UAB to claim crown… Won first-round match at USTA/ITA Southern Regional Championships to extend season-opening win streak to four… Won five of their first six matches of the spring season, including three in a row over Central Florida, Bethune-Cookman and Samford.

2012-13: 17-11 overall record, 14-6 in dual matches… 2-3 at No. 1, 2-2 at No. 2, 10-1 at No. 3… Won final six matches of the season and 10 of last 11, all in straight sets… Rebounded from four-match skid to win six of her next seven outings… Did not play in a three-set match all spring… Lost no more than three games in season-ending win streak, including 6-1, 6-0 victory over Rachel Daniell of UAB and 6-0, 6-0 whitewashing of Louisiana-Lafayette’s Melissa Burckhartt at Sun Belt Championships… Also blanked Rachel Howie of Nicholls State… 23-10 overall in doubles, 15-7 in dual matches… 14-7 at No. 1, 1-0 at No. 2… Paired up with Michaela Meszarosova to go 14-7 at the No. 1 spot and 4-2 against Sun Belt schools… Put together five-match win streak with Newton, losing just five total in final three matches… Earned 8-6 victory over team from No. 56 North Texas… Won only pairing with Paula Sanchez at No. 2 over Jacksonville State… Teamed with Mary Angela Martin to go 7-2 in the fall… Won all three matches with Martin at Panther Fall Opener Tournament.

2011-12: 21-2 overall, 18-0 in dual matches… 1-0 at No. 3, 8-0 at No. 4, 3-0 at No. 5, 6-0 at No. 6… Put together finest individual spring season in school history… Won 15 matches in straight sets… Defeated Franzis Sprinkmeyer of No. 60 North Texas 6-1, 6-2 on the No. 6 court… Did not lose a game in back-to-back wins vs. Alabama State and Jacksonville State… Rallied to defeat Giulietta Boha of Florida International 1-6, 6-4, 6-1 and Alcia Porte of Lamar 5-7, 6-4, (10-5)… Outlasted Caroline Magnusson of No. 58 Tulane 6-2, 1-6, 6-1 at the No. 4 spot… Whitewashed six opponents during the spring… Won both matches at Sun Belt Championships… 15-10 in doubles action… 6-5 at No. 1, 2-0 at No. 2, 5-2 at No. 3… Put together two four-match winning streaks in March and April… Defeated duo from Louisiana-Lafayette at Sun Belt Championships… Won seven out of 10 matches with Chané Hines.

Auburn: Lettered one year… Went 6-6 in singles, 7-6 in doubles… Went to All-Americans in doubles.

Personal: Full name is Emily Alexander Newton… Born Nov. 13, 1991 in Dothan, Ala… Daughter of William and Traci Newton… Majoring in public relations… Has a younger sister Ellen… Had a grandfather play golf at Kentucky, another grandfather swim at Emory, and mother played golf at Troy… Hobby is reading… Favorites - movies: “It’s Complicated” and “Bridesmaids”; book: “The Last Lecture”; team: New Orleans Saints; athletes: Mia Hamm and Rafael Nadal; musical artists: Katy Perry; foods: Mexican… Celebrity she would like to meet is Katy Perry … Chose South Alabama because it has a good tennis program and town… Her goals for the upcoming season are to win conference and go to the NCAA Tournament… Listens to music before a match… Best part of playing sports are traveling and getting to know your teammates… She is most thankful for her family, friends and to be at South Alabama… Would like to coach at a Division I school after graduation.
