Jinni Frisbey joined the South Alabama staff as an Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Medicine and Head Athletic Trainer in the summer of 2007, and was named the Senior Woman Administrator in the spring of 2012, Associate Athletic Director 2015, and promoted to Senior Associate Athletic Director in the fall of 2018. Frisbey added duties as the Chief of Staff for the Jaguar football program in 2021 as well.
In her current position, Jinni oversees all aspects of Jaguar Sports Medicine, Athletic Performance, Student-Athlete Well-being, Athletics Deputy Title IX Coordinator, Athletics NCAA Diversity & Inclusion, & sport oversight for Women’s Basketball, Women’s Soccer, & Women’s Volleyball. Frisbey also serves on multiple university initiative and policy review committees.
A native of Pensacola, Fla., Frisbey completed her undergraduate work in 1995 at Troy State, where she received a bachelor’s degree in athletic training, was a member of the intercollegiate softball program (1990-93), and became a National Athletic Trainers Association Certified Athletic Trainer. She earned her master's of education degree in exercise physiology from South Alabama in 1996. Upon completion of her master’s at USA, she became the University of Mobile’s first full-time certified athletic trainer. Frisbey spent 11 years at UM, where she helped develop the nationally accredited athletic training education program, and contributed with the preparation and facility design of the athletic training education center.
Currently in her 25th year as a certified athletic trainer, Frisbey was one of four NCAA Division I Female Head Football Athletic Trainers that also served as a senior athletics staff administrator. She provides daily supervision for the sports medicine and athletic performance programs for South Alabama’s 17 intercollegiate varsity sport programs. Frisbey oversees a staff of 18 certified athletic trainers and certified strength and conditioning professionals. She works in conjunction with multiple highly regarded physicians and medical professionals to assure the finest health care for the South Alabama student-athletes. Frisbey spent two years as the team athletic trainer for the Jaguar men’s basketball program and 10 years as the head athletic trainer for the Jaguar football team.
Frisbey served as the Sun Belt Conference Sports Medicine Directors Committee Chairperson for seven years.and the Sun Belt Conference representative for “Hoops for Hearts,” an organization led by Ryan Gomes of the Minnesota Timberwolves. Hoops for Heart Health is a not-for-profit organization that is designed to address the problems associated with Sudden Cardiac Arrest in high school, college and professional sports. She also serves as an ACI (approved clinical instructor) for the University of Mobile’s, University of West Florida, and other Athletic Training Education program as clinical supervisor for students seeking more experience in a Division I setting.
Other experiences include serving as the associate athletic trainer for the Mobile Admirals regional football team in 1999, and head athletic trainer for the Team America international softball team, which competed in Prague, Czech Republic in 1997.
Frisbey is married to the former Meredith Tanner; the couple have one daughter, Hayden Leigh, and two Australian Shepards, Titan and Jet. Frisbey enjoys playing golf and snow skiing in her time away from Jaguar Athletics.
