Entering his ninth season as assistant coach for the South Alabama soccer program is Mohammed El-Zare. El-Zare joined the Jaguar coaching staff in 2002. In his spare time, El-Zare is involved in promoting and developing the game in the community by serving as the Director of Coaching for the Mobile Soccer Club, as well as an Associate Staff Coach for the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA). He also serves as an instructional staff member for Alabama and Mississippi Youth Soccer Associations.
Prior to South Alabama, El-Zare spent three years as director of coaching for the Cape Coral Soccer Club in Cape Coral, Fla., and five years with the Florida Olympic Development Program. In 1998-99, he served as assistant coach at Florida International.
From 1995-98, El-Zare was head coach for NAIA member St. Thomas University in Miami, Fla., where he led the program to a Florida Sun Conference championship in 1996, Southeast Region Champions and an NAIA National Tournament appearance in 1997.
In his final season, he was named Regional Coach of the Year. He received a dual degree in athletic training and physical education from Lincoln Memorial University in 1992. His professional playing career included two years with the Al-Karoom Vinyard F.C., in Egypt. El-Zare has a United States Soccer Federation A license, an NSCAA Premier Diploma, as well as other youth and international licenses and certificates.
He is married to Virginia Hall and the couple has one son, Tahir.
