Freshman Season (2008): Started seven games for South Alabama in the circle as a true freshman... also made 14 other appearances in relief... recorded four wins, while also carding two complete game shut-out performances against Alabama State (Feb. 24) at the Hatter Invitational and Penn State (Feb. 29) at the Hampton Inn Bama Bash... finished the season with a team-best 2.43 ERA, sixth best in the Sun Belt... also ended the season with 48 strikeouts in 66.1 innings of work... allowed just one home run all season... had a 3.7:1 strike out/walk ratio.

High School: Lettered all four years in softball... earned first-team all-district honors as a senior, junior and a freshman... also earned academic all-district honors those same three seasons... named District MVP her senior season and to both to the all-region first-team and the first-team all-Greater Houston teams... selected to play in the Adidas Top 100 tournament in China as a junior... during her junior season, she recorded an ERA of 0.00 in district play, helping the Cougars finish undefeated against district opponents and capture the District 19 5A championship... biggest prep career highlight was being named the district MVP her senior season... also lettered in volleyball at CRHS.

Personal: Full name is Shannon Marie Smith... born Sept. 12, 1988 in Anchorage, Alaska... daughter of David and Janet Smith... has one younger sister... majoring in Special Education.
