After 10 years as a faculty member at Illinois State — where he also aided both Redbird basketball teams — Williams came to USA in 1980, serving as a member of the faculty and administration until retiring in 2005.  He began working with Jag golf in 1997, and since then has aided the team in winning five Sun Belt Conference championships while competing in six NCAA Regionals.  In addition to his work with current student-athletes, Williams maintains relationships with former Jaguars competing on professional tours across the globe including Gareth Maybin, Ryan Gildersleeve, Jonny Caldwell, Jack Hiluta and Marc-Etienne Bussieres.

He entered higher education at Hutchinson (Kan.) C.C., and after earning his associate degree while playing basketball and running track for the Blue Dragons he moved on to Washburn (Kan.).  Williams played basketball there as well, and after receiving his bachelor’s degree from the school went on to earn both his masters and doctorate degrees from Iowa.
