Student-Athlete Advisory Committee

Mission Statement
SAAC seeks to promote the betterment of student-athletes throughout the athletics department, University campus, Mobile community, Sun Belt Conference, and the National Collegiate Athletics Association. The SAAC is a student-led service organization created to provide leadership opportunities to those student-athletes who desire to create an impact beyond intercollegiate competition. The following priorities guide the formation of the SAAC and establish the Committee's purpose.

A. Provide a forum for student-athletes to share ideas on how to augment the student-athlete experience
B. Represent the student-athlete voice in discussions with athletics department, University, and sport governing body leadership
C. Establish initiatives to encourage student-athlete participation in campus and community service

Jaguar Cup
The Jaguar Cup is a program designed by the SAAC that encourages academic success, community service and attendance to SAAC and athletic events.  A point scoring system has been devised that takes into account a program's finish in the Sun Belt Conference, its semester grade-point average compared to prior performance in the class room, and the percentage of a program's roster that participates in community service events and attends other USA athletic contests.

Champs/LifeSkills Program
The Champs/LifeSkills Sub-Committee will work closely with South Alabama's Office of Athletic Academic Advising to create a program that offers programs that assist student-athletes not only with their current responsibilities in the classroom and competition but in areas of life that will help after the conclusion of collegiate competition.  The sub-committee will assist with scheduling events that fulfill the Champs/Life Skills institutional requirements, and also help create anonymous feedback opportunities for all USA student-athletes.

Communications
The Communications Sub-Committee creates and arranges appropriate communication methods to be disseminated throughout the athletic department and campus community.  The sub-committee will work closely with the school's Athletic Media Relations staff to help create and maintain a SAAC section on the athletic department website as well as make local media members aware of the SAAC's efforts and programs in the community.

Community Service
The purpose of the SAAC Community Service Sub-Committeee is to develop a relationship with community organizations, to arrange community service projects around the university and community with the assistance of SAAC advisor Kristina Villavicencio, and to monitor community service programs for the academic year.
