The Jag-Gals; a “ladies” organization consisting of
fanatical South Alabama Jaguar fans with a passion for life and sports
Mission: Jag-Gals is an all-women’s booster organization at the University of South Alabama consisting of South Alabama Jaguar fans with a passion for life and sports. Our mission is to support and advance the academic achievements of South Alabama student-athletes of all 17 sports. All fundraising goes directly to the Jaguar Athletic Fund (JAF) for academic development and enhancement of tangible life and leadership skills of student-athletes to succeed during and after their playing careers at South Alabama.
History: In 2010 we were organized by Mrs. Tina Erdmann, wife of Joel Erdmann, Director of Athletics of the University of South Alabama, and the spouses of the coaches at South Alabama (known as “The Jag-wives of South Alabama Athletics”). They had a vision to bring all the passionate women who support the department together for more than just cheering on their favorite Jaguar teams. Rather, the vision was to build a network of female fans that wanted to learn about sports and the student-athletes that play them, promote Jaguar Athletics and cultivate new friendships. Professor Dr. Jeanne Maes and her students in the Spring, 2011 Management 305.101 class also joined in the mission to promote this organization of passionate female fans of the University of South Alabama and Jaguar Athletics. By the close of the first year, more than 300-plus women joined the Jag-Gals to help create the largest and first “all female” fan club in the State of Alabama and the Sun Belt Conference!
Events: Currently, Jag-Gals has two fundraisers each year: Jag-Gals Brunch and Bingo in the spring with a silent auction and Jag-Gals Football Social in August with silent and live auction. During the academic year, each “ladies” event will involve any number of the following fun activities; Q&A’s with head coaches and other celebrities of sorts, student-athlete appearances, coaching staff introductions, fashion shows and equipment wear, safety and student-athlete training, highlight videos, rules of the games, a behind-the-scenes look at the typical game day for all sports, group photos, autograph sessions, and an interactive, informative, learning experience for women who want to be the most savvy sports fans in the country. Besides fundraisers, we host “Cookies for Champions” right before the student-athletes’ final exams to show our support, assisting coaches/students with golf tournaments and anywhere needed in the athletic department.
Goals: To continue building the membership base for the Jag-Gals, providing an informative and entertaining environment for ladies to learn about the sports, programs, coaches and student-athletes, seeking charitable contributions and hosting fundraising events to support the academic program on behalf of all student-athletes in all sports.
Membership: Jag-Gals has two levels of membership, Lifetime Membership and Annual Membership. As a Lifetime Member you will receive discounted tickets to all events, early entrance to events to view silent and live auction items, your name listed on the Lifetime Membership plaque in the “Jag-Gals Corner” located on the 4th floor of the Athletic Administration Building and a Lifetime Membership decal for your car. Annual Membership will receive a Member decal for your car. All events are still open to all ladies and we encourage individual donations that can be made to the Jaguar Athletic Fund (JAF) with a notation on the check for “Jag-Gals.” Your tax-deductible contribution will help provide the resources for student-athletes to succeed and help set South Alabama apart from other institutions around the country.
