MOBILE, Ala. - Jaguar Sports Marketing announced Friday that WNSP 105.5 FM in Mobile will be the broadcast home for University of South Alabama football games this fall.
Lee Shirvanian, the longtime voice of Jaguar men's basketball and baseball, will call the play-by-play action, with Rick Cleveland handling the analysis and Pat Greenwood hosting the pre- and postgame shows as well as halftime activities. Greenwood will also be the sideline reporter for the network.
Shirvanian - who has been the voice of the Jags for 30 years -also is co-host of the "Morning Sportscenter" on WNSP. Since arriving in Mobile, he has been named the Mobile Sportscaster of the Year in 1985 while in '92 he received a South Alabama Athletics Hall of Fame award. Shirvanian also has experience covering Rutgers football and basketball, as well as professional teams in New York and Philadelphia.
Cleveland is the freshman football coach at UMS-Wright Preparatory School in Mobile, where he also is the head boy's tennis coach. He serves as the host of "Prep Sports Weekly" as well as the "Prep Sports Report."
Greenwood is the longest-tenured member of the NBC 15 staff in Mobile, having worked at the television station since 1997. After becoming the station's Sports Director in 1999, he returned to news in September 2007. Greenwood was selected the Best Sportscaster by the Alabama AP in 2001, and was named the Best Sportscaster by the Mobile Press Club in '04.
"We feel like we have assembled a strong radio team for the historic inaugural season of USA football," said Gary Saunders, General Manager of Jaguar Sports Marketing. "Each man will bring a unique set of skills and experience to the game broadcasts each week."
USA will play its first-ever game on Saturday, Sept. 5, against Hargrave (Va.) Military Academy at Ladd-Peebles Stadium, with kickoff slated for 4 p.m.
