MOBILE, Ala.?The University of South Alabama women’s tennis team clinched its first victory of the season at home 7-0, against Sun Belt Conference rival University of New Orleans.
“It was just a good win.” Head Coach Jaco Keyser said, “Getting a win against a conference team is always a good thing. We came out ready to play, which is good because the competition picks up straight away this week at National Indoors.”
South Alabama (1-0) pulled ahead early in the match when the Jaguar doubles teams of Michaela Babicova/Alina Volman (8-1) and Sylvanie Spangenberg/Marie Boura (8-0) defeated their Privateer counterparts.
The lone loss for the Lady Jags came as the doubles tandem of Sylvanie Spangenberg and Marie Boura fell to UNO’s Kir Kemp and Ceara Howey 8-6.
The Lady Jags dominated in the singles portion of the match. Spangenberg, Babicova, Krisan, Welch, Boura, and Volman each picked up singles wins to help secure the seven point match victory.
South Alabama will now hit the road heading to Gainesville, Fla. to take on Western Michigan at the ITA National Indoor Championships on Jan. 31.
