HATTIESBURG, Miss. ? USA took home both team titles in an incredible performance at the Southern Miss Invitational Friday afternoon. The women’s team won by four points while the men finished an impressive 25 points ahead of second place Nicholls State.
Micah Tirop won the 8K run with a time of 24:55.02 and was followed in the top five by Antipah Sugut (26:36.84), Onesmus Too (26:53.46), Damien Lee (28:22.85) and Will Thomas (29:24.84). Freshman Josh Mather finished 12th with a time of 32:29.32 to round out the men’s top finishers.
South Alabama women also had a successful night, placing four runners in the top ten. Magrina Chepkoech won the 5K with a time of 19:30.20 while Natalie Dixon took fifth (21:14.34) and following close behind in sixth was Jobenita Davison (21:18.80). Louise Faye finished eighth (21:41.35), in 11th was Jasmine James (22:27.95), placing 12th was Jessica Miller (22:34.86) and to close out the lady jag runners in 18th was Courtney Kieffer (23:38.95).
“Our boys ran great tonight, taking it one through five shows how strong we are with the full roster. Natalie Dixon was sick and still placed fifth. This was a great race for us, our runners did really well,” said coach Tim Goldsack. “It’s been a long time since both the men’s and women’s teams won, so this is a great night for us. This is a step in the right direction for our program.”
